Online Course FTP Folders

All files uploaded to your course’s FTP folder will be permanently deleted 10 days after your course has ended. You are responsible for creating backups of all of your work.

Example:

The last day of your course is March 1, 2005; on March 12, 2005, all of the files will be permanently deleted.

Internet Explorer: Technical Information

Courses offered through The Art Institute Online are best viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer v.5.5/6.0 (PC) and 5.0/6.0 (MAC).

If you are experiencing problems connecting to your course FTP folder, please follow these steps:

  • Start Internet Explorer
  • On the Tools menu, click Internet Options

  • Click on the Advanced tab:
  • click to SELECT the Enable folder view for FTP sites check box.
  • click to CLEAR the Show friendly HTTP error messages check box

  • Click the OK button
  • Close ALL browser windows
  • Restart Internet Explorer
  • There are 2 ways to access the FTP folder, in this example this is for the test area, not your course ftp site:

    OPTION 1

    • In the Address line, type the following URL or click on the link:
      ftp://ftptest@65.36.243.3/
    • In the USER NAME field, type: ftptest
    • In the PASSWORD field, type: test123abc
    • Click the LOGIN button
    • You should now have access to the directory

    OPTION 2

    • In the Address line, type the following URL or click on the link:
      ftp://ftptest:test123abc@65.36.243.3/
    • You should now have access to the directory

      * The above examples are for testing only, this is NOT your course folder. Any files that are uploaded to the test area are subject to deletion without any prior notification.

When you try to connect to your course FTP folder, you will have to substitute a couple of the above values in the URL:

Substitute ftptest with the LOGIN you where given for your course FTP folder

Substitute test123abc with the PASSWORD you where given for your course FTP folder

  • To see a live view of the files in the FTPTEST folder, open your favorite browser and type the following URL:
    http://www.studentprojectarea.com/ftptest

When you want to see the files in your course FTP folder, you will have to substitute the last part of the above URL:

Substitute ftptest with the LOGIN you where given for the FTP folder, followed by any other sub-directories.

    Example:

If the LOGIN for your course FTP folder is: eng101f02b and your files are located in a sub-directory called john_doe , the full URL you would use is:

    http://www.studentprojectarea.com/eng101f02b/john_doe
