Socrates Distance Learning Technologies Group® (Socrates) was founded in 1996 by Dr. Gerry Bedore Sr. and his son, Gerry L. Bedore Jr. A distance-learning pioneer, Dr. Bedore had worked since the early 1980s in developing online learning methodologies for educational organizations.
In October 1998, Socrates became part of Education Management Corporation (EDMC). Since then, Socrates has helped establish the standard of excellence shared by all EDMC learning institutions that offer online programs by:
- Developing an array of information-rich resources to enhance students’ online learning experience through student tutorials, discussion and community areas, and industry networking opportunities
- Providing training to more than 4,000 educators in the art of online instruction since 1996
- Maintaining close communication with students to evaluate their needs and
attitudes and help them achieve learning success
- Confirming quality instruction by monitoring faculty performance and providing opportunities
for additional faculty training
